Fuller Statement of Our Beliefs

At CLC Family Church, everyone is welcome—right where you are.

We nurture a culture that values honesty, curiosity, and grace. Whether you’re exploring faith, returning to church, or looking to grow deeper in your walk with Christ, CLC is a safe place to bring your questions, doubts, and hopes.

We don’t rush belief or pressure conformity. Instead, we seek to present the Scriptures humbly, clearly, and honestly, so that you can encounter the message of Jesus firsthand.

Our Foundation & What We Believe

Our beliefs are not our invention—they are our inheritance.

We stand in the long line of believers who have trusted the truth of God’s Word for centuries. Our doctrine comes from the clear teaching of Scripture, faithfully passed down through the generations.

We believe:

  • JESUS CHRIST is the only infallible rule for faith and life, and He based His ministry, life, and teaching on the infallible scriptures.

  • Our doctrinal commitments shape our leadership, not the other way around.

  • These statements do not say everything the Bible teaches, but they express what unites us and grounds our life together as followers of Jesus.

We organize our beliefs in three categories:
Essentials, Convictions, and Preferences.

1.  Essentials — Core Truths of the Christian Faith

At CLC, we prioritize the essentials.

These are the truths that have united all Christians throughout the world and throughout history. They are rooted in Scripture and affirmed in the historic creeds of the Church.

Historic Creeds:

  • The Apostles’ Creed

  • The Nicene Creed

You can read both of the Creeds in full here

  • (Note: “catholic” as used in these creeds means the universal Christian Church)

Examples of Essentials:

  • The Trinity: One God in three persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

  • The full divinity and humanity of Jesus Christ

  • That we are deeply flawed, yet more deeply loved

  • The atoning death of Jesus Christ fully paid for all our sins

  • Salvation by grace through faith in Christ alone

  • The bodily resurrection and return of Christ

All CLC members affirm these essential beliefs.

2. Convictions — What Shapes How We Live

At CLC, what we believe about God shapes how we live, love, and serve every day.
Our church is connected with ECO: A Covenant Order of Evangelical Presbyterians. ECO is a community of churches across the country that share a deep trust in Scripture, authentic discipleship, and living out the historic Christian faith. You can learn more about ECO here .

These convictions come from what we see in the Bible. They’re not walls that keep people out—they’re guideposts that help us follow Jesus faithfully and flourish together.

Some of our core convictions:

  • God Is in Control

God is a good and wise King who rules over everything. His plans never fail, and knowing that gives us courage and peace—no matter what life brings.

  • Every Person Has Infinite Worth

Every human life matters because every person is made in God’s image—from the very beginning of life to its end. We show our love for God by caring for and protecting others, especially those who are vulnerable.

  • The Holy Spirit Calls and Equips Everyone

We believe God’s Spirit gives both women and men the gifts and calling to serve and lead in every area of church life. No one is sidelined or second-class—everyone is invited to use their God-given gifts to help others know and follow Jesus.

  • Marriage Reflects God’s Love

We believe God designed marriage as a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman. It’s meant to show the faithful, sacrificial love Jesus has for His people.

As part of ECO, we’re connected with other churches who encourage one another to live out these convictions with both grace and truth — always pointing back to Jesus.

3. Preferences — How We Do Ministry

Not everything in the Bible is a “must-do” or “must-not.” In many areas, God gives us freedom and creativity. At CLC, we make choices that fit our local community and help people connect with Jesus in real, life-giving ways.

Different churches in ECO express that freedom differently—and that’s okay! Styles and methods can change over time as we grow and find new ways to reach people.

Some of our ministry preferences include:

  • The Bible translations we use when teaching and worshiping

  • The style of our worship most often is a mix of contemporary and familiar songs

  • The tone of our gatherings is more relaxed than formal

  • How we organize our ministries and programs

We try to hold all these things with open hands—using our freedom with wisdom and grace, always asking: Does this help people meet Jesus and grow in His love?

Our Theological Values

ECO’s vision shapes our life together at CLC:

  • Building Flourishing Churches:

Helping churches grow healthy and multiply disciples of Jesus Christ.

  • Missional Centrality:

Living out the whole Gospel—sharing Christ, pursuing justice, and showing compassion.

  • Theology of Risk:

God’s sovereignty fuels courage, not passivity. We step out in faith, trusting His control.

  • Thoughtful Theology:

We value lifelong learning, cultivating both heart and mind as gifts to love God fully.

An Invitation:

You are welcome here.

Bring your questions, doubts, and honest wrestlings.

We seek to be a community of grace where you can explore the claims of Christ and develop your faith.
